At least 3 more Call of Duty video games will release on Sony’s PlayStation consoles – OnMSFT.com

Ever since Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision was made public earlier this month, speculation has run rife in gaming circles about what this could mean for the future of Activision video games, such as the mega-popular Call of Duty titles, on Sony’s rival PlayStation consoles like the PS5.

Microsoft’s Phil Spencer did state that the company intends to honor existing contracts in regards to future PlayStation releases though it was still unclear as to what would happen after those contracts expire.

“Had good calls this week with leaders at Sony,” Spencer tweeted. “I confirmed our intent to honor all existing agreements upon acquisition of Activision Blizzard and our desire to keep Call of Duty on PlayStation. Sony is an important part of our industry, and we value our relationship.”

A report by Bloomberg earlier today provides a bit of insight on the issue and claims that, according to four separate sources with insider knowledge, at least three more Call of Duty video games are currently planned to launch on both Microsoft’s Xbox and Sony’s PlayStation consoles.

These games include the next entry in the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare due out later this year from Infinity Ward, an unspecified Call of Duty title expected sometime in 2023 by Treyarch, and a new iteration of the free-to-play Call of Duty: Warzone video game, also planned for 2023.

Apparently, it’s unknown right now what the plans are for 2024, just under two years from now. On one hand, Microsoft continuing to release Activision titles such as Call of Duty on PlayStation consoles would diversify their gaming revenue sources quite a bit but, on the other hand, making Call of Duty an Xbox console exclusive franchise would be an absolute power move that could encourage a lot of players to finally jump ship to Microsoft’s growing Xbox ecosystem.

What do you think? Should Microsoft continue to release Call of Duty games on Sony’s consoles or would it be better to make them all exclusive to Xbox? Share your thoughts in the comments below and then follow us on Twitter, Facebook, and Pinterest for more gaming news.
