Coding students play video games with guaranteed job at end – The Times

The founder of lastminute.com has set up a highly competitive coding college without lecturers whose students pay no fees and learn through playing computer games.

Brent Hoberman has created an education model that he wants to introduce across the country, with the goal of training 100,000 software programmers by 2030.

Industry leaders have warned that there is a shortage of suitably skilled workers. A think tank, the Learning & Work Institute described the situation as “catastrophic” and said that the UK was heading towards a skills “disaster”.

The first campus of the college, called 01 Founders, opened six months ago in central London. It has 65 students who faced a gruelling admissions process — but they have no lectures, seminars or tutorials. Instead the students
