The co-director of Deathloop has been appointed as Arkane Lyon’s new studio head.

Dinga Bakaba took on the role of studio director at the company in October, following the departure of former head Romuald Capron.

Bakaba has also retained his position as Arkane Lyon’s co-creative director, a role he shares with Deathloop co-director and studio art director Sebastien Mitton.

Arkane Lyon’s new studio head joined the developer in November 2010. He’s credited as a designer and producer on Dishonored and it’s DLCs, as lead designer on Dishonored 2 and Death of the Outsider, and as game director on Wolfenstein: Youngblood.

Bakaba’s predecessor Capron stepped down in October shortly after the launch of the studio’s latest game, the critically acclaimed Deathloop, and seven months after Arkane’s parent company ZeniMax Media was acquired by Microsoft.

In VGC’s 5-star Deathloop review, critic Jon Bailes called the PS5 and PC title “one of the smartest and most outright entertaining games of the year.”

He wrote: “Deathloop is slick and inventive, with a delicious sense of style and humour. It distils Arkane’s hefty systems into something more explicitly playful, then leaves its sparkling cast to run riot in its huge interlocking puzzle of an island.”

The first major Deathloop update was released in October, improving “several aspects of the gameplay experience, camera smoothness and NPC behaviors”.

Deathloop will not be available on other consoles until at least September 2022, when it can be expected to be released for Xbox platforms including Game Pass.
