Nintendo has added three more games to Nintendo Switch Online’s NES and SNES libraries.
Kirby’s Avalanche and Fighter’s History have been added to the SNES library, while Famicom title Daiva Story 6: Imperial of Nirsartia joins the NES collection.
Kirby’s Avalanche, originally released in Europe as Kirby’s Ghost Trap, is the western version of puzzle game Super Puyo Puyo, which was released on the Super Famicom in Japan.
Deciding that its anime characters may not appeal to western audiences, developer Compile teamed up with Nintendo and HAL Laboratory, replacing the Puyo Puyo characters with Kirby ones.

Fighter’s History is a one-on-one fighting game which is so similar to Street Fighter II that Capcom actually took its developer Data East to court.
Capcom lost the case when a judge claimed Fighter’s History’s alleged infringements were ‘scenes a faire’, meaning they almost had to be in a fighting game and would have been hard to avoid.
Finally, Daiva Story 6: Imperial of Nirsartia is an action game that was only ever released in Japan, meaning today’s Switch Online addition marks the first time it’s been officially released in the west.
It’s the sixth part of a seven-part series developed by Toshiba EMI, and the only one released on the Famicom.
Curiously, all seven games actually tell the same story from a different side of a war, and each was released on a completely different system.
Because it was never released in Japan, the Japanese Switch Online service doesn’t get Kirby’s Avalanche – instead, it gets Kirby’s Super Star Stacker, a 16-bit remake of Game Boy puzzle game Kirby’s Star Stacker that never made it to the west.
Switch Online subscribers with access to the Japanese eShop can download the Super Famicom app and get access to the Japanese library too, including Kirby’s Super Star Stacker.
