An encyclopedia focused on the creatures that appear in Animal Crossing: New Horizons will be released in Japan later this year.
The book, and accompanying 57-minute long DVD, are meant to teach players about the ecology of the game and provide facts and information about the various fish, butterflies and more that are found in Animal Crossing.
The book will feature information about all 235 species found in the game, although from the released images, this appears to be a small infographic for each species.
The book, which is currently scheduled to be released in Japan on July 29, isn’t currently scheduled for an English translation.
It’s being positioned by Nintendo as an educational tool, using the creatures from Animal Crossing in order to teach kids about sea life and insects.
Former Nintendo of America president and COO Reggie Fils-Aimé recently suggested that Animal Crossing could be a good fit for blockchain technology.
Speaking during a SXSW panel this year, Fils-Aimé said he believed blockchain could work in gaming if it’s implemented from a player’s perspective.
“I bet I’d have some takers here today if I wanted to sell my Animal Crossing island from the latest Nintendo Switch version. I’d like to be able to monetise that. Blockchain technology embedded in the code and into development would enable me to do that.”
He added: “So I’m a believer in the technology and where it’s headed. But I say that in the context of, it needs to make sense for the player, it can’t just be an approach by the developer that it’s interesting or a way for them to make more money.
“In the end, it’s got to be good for the player, but I see an opportunity.”
