Modern Warfare 2 art suggests COD could be returning to Steam | VGC – Video Games Chronicle

Artwork from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has appeared on Steam, suggesting that the series may be returning to Valve‘s platform for the first time in seven years.

The art, which was first posted by Reddit user Kalinine, shows Ghost from the game’s cover art in a banner which directs players to “explore the full franchise”. The artwork has since been removed.

The last Call of Duty game to be released on Steam was Call of Duty: WWII, which was released in 2017.

Since then, new Call of Duty titles on PC have launched exclusively as part of Activision‘s Battle.Net launcher.

Artwork Reveal – Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II

Activision recently announced that the Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 release date is October 28, 2022.

Alongside the announcement, Activision released a teaser trailer (as seen above), revealing artwork for Infinity Ward’s game and some of the starring characters.

“Task Force 141 makes its massive return with a global squad of iconic veterans,” the trailer’s accompanying blurb reads.

“These Operators include Captain John Price, Simon ‘Ghost’ Riley, John ‘Soap’ MacTavish, Kyle ‘Gaz’ Garrick and introducing Mexican Special Forces Colonel Alejandro Vargas.”

A low-quality Modern Warfare 2 gameplay clip seemingly leaked earlier this month ahead of the first official gameplay showing, which is expected in early June.

As first reported by VGC in September 2021, Modern Warfare 2’s campaign will be centred around the drug war against Columbian cartels.

Sources said the single-player story is “a grittier take on Modern Warfare 2019’s campaign”, with more close-quarters combat, tricky decision making, and the classic Call of Duty set-piece moments fans have come to expect.
