Twitter says Genshin Impact and Wordle are the most discussed games of 2022 so far – Video Games Chronicle

Video games

Twitter has shared the most discussed games on its platform throughout the first half of 2022.

According to the platform, Genshin Impact continues to be the game most people tweet about worldwide, having been the number one most tweeted about game throughout 2021 as well.

The newest entry is web puzzle game Wordle, which didn’t make the top 10 in 2021 but is now the second most-tweeted-about game globally.

Other new entries that didn’t appear in the 2021 list include Elden Ring and The Legend of Zelda.

A number of heavy-hitters from the 2021 list aren’t present in the list for the first half of 2022, including Animal Crossing, Minecraft and Fortnite.

The full list is as follows:

Most tweeted about games in the first half of 2022 (2021 placing in brackets)

  1. Genshin Impact (1)
  2. Wordle (NEW)
  3. Ensemble Stars (3)
  4. Final Fantasy (4)
  5. Project Sekai (9)
  6. Apex Legends (2)
  7. Elden Ring (NEW)
  8. Fate/Grand Order (5)
  9. Valorant (NEW)
  10. The Legend of Zelda (NEW)

Wordle’s new entry at number 2 is particularly noteworthy, given that the game’s entire concept means it’s only likely to have been discussed by people who can speak English – as such, it’s technically pulling from a smaller potential player pool.

Elsewhere in Twitter’s report, Japan is the country that has tweeted about video games the most in the first half of 2022, followed by the United States in second place and South Korea in third. The UK is the only European country featured in the top 10, placing ninth.

Earlier this year, Twitter revealed figures suggesting that Sony’s acquisition of Bungie generated more discussion than Microsoft‘s acquisition of Activision Blizzard on the platform.

Genshin Impact continues to be the most discussed game worldwide on Twitter

Although the information provided didn’t give any exact figures, it showed that there were four clear discussion peaks between January 1 and March 31 this year.

These were on the days that Microsoft announced it was acquiring Activision Blizzard, Sony announced it was acquiring Bungie, Elden Ring was released and Fortnite‘s new season started.

Twitter’s data showed that the release of Elden Ring generated the most discussion by far on the platform, likely due to the many millions of players buying the game on day one and sharing their initial impressions.

The second-most discussed topic was Sony’s acquisition of Bungie, followed by Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard, which gained slightly more buzz than Fortnite’s new season.
